Translation of the interview with Dawa Tsering
The journalist requested a number of responses from Mr Dawa Tsering (someone looks up his name in English - I attempted a phonetic translation), who is the official Spokesman for the Tibetan Exile Government on Chinese Affairs.
Journalist: Mr Dawa Tsering, we are still awaiting a proper response from the Tibetan Exile Government. In particular, Chinese Authorities have repeated charged that Dalai Lama's proclamation of non-violent opposition is all but a charade. If Dalai were serious about non-violent opposition, why has he thus far failed to condemn the Tibetan mob that massacred innocent Chinese civilians and pillaged businesses on 14th March 2008?
Mr Dawa Tsering: Firstly, I want to point out that Tibetans throughout the protest have engaged in non-violent activities. From Tibetan point view, violence means harming lives. During the protest, as we have seen from numerous video clips available, Han Chinese were assaulted by Tibetan protesters. While these Han Chinese were physically assaulted, they would eventually escape with their lives. Hence, the Tibetan protesters only engaged in physical assaults, but not in harming lives (hence only engaged in non-violent activities). Those non-Tibetan Chinese died on that day all had perished accidentally. From Chinese Government's own reporting, we have learned that those who died chose to hide above their shops when Tibetan protesters tore down shop doors and forced their way into those shops. When Tibetan protestors started to firebomb the shops, those who chose to hide above the shops rather than to run away died. Hence their deaths can be regarded as accidental in nature as those Tibetan protesters who engaged in arson attacks weren't aware that there were people above the shops. The perished civilians include Han Chinese as well as Tibetans. Hence, those deaths were purely accidental.
